Thailand’s National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC)

Bangkok, Thailand – Thailand’s National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) hosted a roundtable discussion entitled ‘Strengthening Anti-Corruption Collaboration in the ASEAN Region’ on 10th December 2013 in Bangkok. The roundtable session was attended by over 30 high-level representatives including a Minister, various heads of anti-corruption agencies from 7 ASEAN countries, as well as UNODC and UNDP.
Discussants shared their country’s/agency’s experiences in implementing initiatives and efforts aimed at strengthening anti-corruption collaboration in the region, and outlined the practical steps needed to be undertaken collectively among the anti-corruption bodies in ASEAN in preparation for greater regional integration by 2015.

One practical suggestion brought up during the discussion by several participants is for UNODC to work with anti-corruption agencies in the ASEAN region to produce a manual on financial investigation for anti-corruption practitioners. The publication is intended to be used as a training manual as well as a reference guide for investigators. It will contain step-by-step guidance on the use of investigative techniques to identify and document the movement of money during the course of criminal activity.

The roundtable discussion was moderated by Mr. Martin Kreutner, Dean and Executive Secretary of the International Anti-Corruption Academy (IACA), and organized as a side event of the 2nd Session of the Assembly of Parties to the IACA, which was hosted by the Kingdom of Thailand during 9-11 December 2013.
